Manhattan’s Borough Presidency is currently held by Gale Brewer, who is term limited. A field of 7 candidates seeks the office, but since one of them is Thomas Lopez-Pierre, there are really only six.

Council District 10: Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill Yet another seat where the incumbent, Ydanis Rodriguez, is term limited, this is the other place in Manhattan where I have lived. 8 candidates have declared though only 6 filed transactions.

Council District 9: Central Harlem, Morningside Heights, Upper West Side, East Harlem A dozen candidates have lined up to fill the seat currently occupied by Bill Perkins. 10 have filed transactions.

Council District 8: El Barrio/East Harlem, Mott Haven, Highbridge, Concourse, Longwood, Port Morris Incumbent Diana Ayala won this seat when it was vacated by Melissa Mark-Viverito. Ayala has one challenger though the fundraising situation does not make it look like this challenger will really hang, does it?

Council District 7: Manhattan Valley, Manhattanville, Morningside Heights, Hamilton Heights The current incumbent, Mark Levine–another former photo client of mine from around a decade ago–is now term limited. Thirteen candidates have filed to replace Mark and 12 have filed transactions. These charts should help provide some contrast on candidate performance so far.

Council District 5: Upper East Side’s Yorkville, Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill, Roosevelt Island, Midtown East, Sutton Place, El Barrio in East Harlem This is another open seat as its current incumbent, Ben Kallos, is term limited. There are currently 8 candidates in this field.
